Damien Borowik at Event Two
Damien Borowik is a digital craftsperson. Inline with the algorist movement, he investigates the uses of technology in art and its effects on the creative process, with a strong emphasis on aesthetics and serendipity. Although the artist still likes to express his emotions through abstract paintings, he also develops his own creative tools digitally and physically. His work spans many medium including video, sound, light, digital and new media, installations, performances, virtual reality and traditional painting. In 2014, Borowik started working on his drawing machines. The machines are built by hand in an iterative process using mechanical components, electronics and programming code.
Damien Borowik graduated from Central Saint Martins (CSM), University of the Arts London with a BA in Graphic design, he later pursued an MA in Computational Arts at Goldsmiths, University of London. As an academic, Damien has taught Interactive Design at CSM BA Graphic Design and MA Communication Design for 7 years. He is still teaching there, running workshops in Creative Coding and VR. In his professional practice, Damien has won numerous awards and exhibited worldwide while working with clients such as Christian Dior Couture, Sir Terence Conran, Samsung Electronics, Southbank Centre and BBC Worldwide. Recently, the Victoria & Albert Museum acquired several of Damien's artworks to be included in their permanent collection, with one specific artwork currently touring the UK in the exhibition 'Chance & Control: Art in the Age of Computers'. Damien currently facilitates online postgraduate courses at the University of the Arts London and runs workshops in Creative Coding around London.
